How to Claim Your Funds

If your name appears on the Hancock County Unclaimed Property List, or if you believe the Circuit Clerk is holding funds owed to you, please contact our office directly to initiate a claim call 217-357-2474. You must provide proper identification to verify ownership before funds can be released. There is never a fee to claim your property.

Important Statutory Deadline: By law, if these court funds remain unclaimed after a set period, the Circuit Clerk is required to transfer them over to the State of Illinois.

For Funds Already Sent to State

Once unclaimed funds are transferred out of local custody, the Illinois State Treasurer holds the money indefinitely until it is claimed by either the original owner or their legal heirs.

If your funds have already been turned over to the state, you can search for and claim your property for free by visiting the Illinois State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Website.
